As today’s health care delivery becomes increasingly complex and integrated, a new educational model must appropriately address the current and emerging learning needs of students, trainees, and practitioners. In the modern health care system, society needs practitioners who demonstrate clinical and research excellence, work within an integrated health care team, develop and utilize evidence-based methodologies, are technologically competent, have high patient safety standards, focus on patient engagement, and practice efficiencies. Health education programming should prepare learners to function and lead in a diverse, heterogenous society. This transformation at AHCs will be dramatic and require intensive coordination across the tripartite missions. Long-engrained workplace cultures must evolve. Previously disparate areas of AHCs must enhance efforts in collaboration to become more efficient and competitive.
