EA Its Madden 22 Franchise Updates Are Becoming a Reality Despite Cancellation Rumors

In spite of rumors that were circulated on the internet during the week, EA is planning to announce two more updates to Madden 22's Franchise mode, reiterating what it describes as its commitment to Madden as a live-streamed game.

In a statement that was released today, EA Sports told IGN:

We don't like to talk about rumors and speculation. However, we are committed to continuing to improve Franchise as part of our ongoing Madden NFL 22 live service and beyond. This includes two coming Franchise updates we'll be releasing in Madden NFL 22. We'll give more details on the changes in the new year.

The news comes after a report from Sports Gamers Online that EA has made the decision to stop additional game mode franchise updates in Madden 22. The IGN report was based partly on an conversation with Madden 22 director of production Seann Graddy, who said that this year's content strategy is "slightly smaller than the ones of years prior" because the team is focused on a few key areas rather than attempting to launch content on the scale of Superstar KO, a well-received arcade mode that was introduced with Madden 20.

"I would say [the roadmap may be a bit less ambitious than what we have seen in the past because we're focused on a few segments from Madden 22 and also getting established on Madden 23 in a big manner," Graddy said at the time. "So I'm sticking to what we've always said the past few years: we're a live service and we'll be continuing to update this game. However, we're definitely not planning to talk about a brand new mode."

The news story was noticed due to the fact that franchise mode is a source of contention for certain Madden fans.
