Ellora Caves - The Caves of India

Sector 3, Boorcan, 110001

The Ellora Caves, located in the Indian state of Maharashtra, are a series of 34 rock-cut caves that date back to the 6th and 10th centuries AD. These caves, carved out of the face of a basalt cliff, showcase the skills of ancient Indian artists and architects and serve as a testament to the religious harmony that existed in India during that time period.

Ellora caves are world famous for their unique blend of Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain architectural styles, which coexist peacefully within the same complex. Of the 34 caves, 17 are Buddhist, 12 are Hindu, and 5 are Jain. Each of these caves is adorned with intricate carvings, sculptures, and paintings that depict various scenes from religious texts and legends.

One of the most famous caves is the Kailasa Temple, a massive rock-cut temple that was carved out of a single rock. This temple, which is considered one of the greatest rock-cut temples in the world, is a representation of Lord Shiva's palace. The temple is known for its stunning carvings and sculptures, including the massive Nandi Bull that stands guard at the entrance.
