It's puzzling that Sudeley Castle isn't more recognized, given the role it played in English history. A favorite of powerful kings from Richard the Lionheart to Queen Elizabeth I, it is nestled in the picturesque Cotswolds near the charming market village of Winchcombe. The most notorious "survivor" of the Tudor period and the sixth wife of Henry VIII, Katherine Parr, is buried in a magnificent 15th-century chapel in the grounds. The "20 treasures of Sudeley" are another highlight, since they are a collection of valuable relics that changed the historical narrative.

Framlingham Castle, located in the picturesque Suffolk countryside approximately 30 minutes northeast of Ipswich, is a superb example of the "motte and bailey" defenses used in the 11th and 12th centuries. Nowadays, tourists may walk the castle's intact curtain wall and take in breathtaking views of the countryside and River Ore before relaxing with a cup of tea in the castle's café, which gained notoriety as the site where Mary I was crowned queen of England.
