The Australian School of Meditation and Yoga (ASMY), takes a holistic approach to yoga, offering a wonderful balance of asana (postures), meditation and yoga lifestyle workshops where under one roof you can learn how to incorporate yoga practices into your life and achieve optimum physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

There is a wide variety of yoga asana classes on offer from a range of teachers where you are sure to find a suitable class no matter whether you are a first-timer looking to start a gentle exercise routine,a seasoned practitioner wanting a more challenging flow class, or somewhere in between.  ASMY also offers a selection of meditation classes and courses to choose from. Take a Discover Meditation course where you will learn how to practice meditation and incorporate it into your daily life or join a fully guided Deep Peace session, which will take you to a place of pure relaxation of body, mind and heart.

Kirtan (sacred yoga chant) is the soul of the yoga system and being one of the most simple, enjoyable, yet powerful forms of meditation, is held regularly throughout the week and at all ASMY classes.

ASMY also host large events such as Chant for Peace Kirtan Festival and the recent World Yoga Day festivities that were held in many locations around Australia.
The core value of ASMY is ‘a balanced life’.  Nowadays everyone is running so fast to stay in the same spot trying to deal with the stresses of work, family life, and the polluted, congested cities that most of us live in. Add to this the increasingly horrific world events that we are confronted with daily through so many medial outlets;it is no wonder that everyone is suffering enormous amounts of stress both mentally and physically.

How many times have you thought ‘Stop the world, I want to get off!” but find you cant even squeeze out a few minutes from your busy life to step off the wheel.  That is where the meditation and yoga classes offered by ASMY come to the rescue.

ASMY is a non-profit organization offering simple, enjoyable programs that can benefit everybody regardless of age or current physical condition. ASMY's goal is to guide you to a more balanced lifestyle, helping your body become stronger and more flexible, your mind calmer and thereby increasing your sense of well-being and vitality and bringing a greater sense of sacredness into your daily life.

The ASMY website(and Facebook page) is where you will find all the information about classes, activities and timetables that will help you take the first step to ‘step off the wheel’ and begin the journey to find optimum physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

I have been attending the Hatha Yoga classes at ASMY since July last year, I love that there are a variety of different classes and times to choose from. In October I went along to the Open day which provided me with a good introduction to the full range of activities at the Centre. I have enjoyed them all, especially the wonderful “Live Kirtan” mantra meditation. Since then I have attended the sessions regularly; using them to wind down after a busy week or joining on a Sunday evening to prepare for the coming work week. And to mention the special celebration events they host and the Kirtan Rivers Cruise. For someone like myself that is new to Brisbane the ASMY Centre has provided a great sense of community, as there are so many friendly and like-minded people to meet and share a yummy veggie meal with, making you feel very welcome from the start. - Maree Jenner

I discovered ASMY a few years ago, and I haven’t looked back! At that time, for a number of reasons, I was stressed out, anxious and depressed. I was being treated for PTSD, and my therapist kept suggesting relaxation techniques and deep breathing. Following his advice, I decided to try ASMY’s “Deep Peace” sessions. I made a commitment to practicing it regularly for two months and then to evaluate my progress. Almost immediately I felt better. With regular practice, I was much more able to self-regulate in overwhelming moments. Now, I can’t imagine a life without meditation practice. It’s just been so nice to give my mind a break. This doesn’t happen in the therapeutic context, where you are required to talk and seek and dredge up complex experiences from the past. I’d often leave therapy feeling worse, but I float out of the Deep Peace classes feeling rested, renewed, and positive. And because ASMY provides such a lovely environment, I practice yoga and kirtan too. I take advantage of the many wonderful workshops on offer. Their holistic approach has given me greater self-awareness, better health, and much needed peace of mind. Bravo, ASMY. -Jacqueline Adair-Jones – Creative Freelance Writer
