You may need a UK residence card as evidence of your right to live and work in the UK if you’re a national of a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. Residence cards are normally valid for 5 years. You can apply for a new one if your circumstances have changed, for example, if you’ve been granted further leave to remain in the UK. You should apply for a residence card before your current one expires. If you do not have a valid residence card, you may be asked to leave the UK.
