Timothy Gordon hails from Wellington, New Zealand and first studied dance in Sydney with Joan and Monica Halliday. He graduated from the Australian Ballet School and joined the Australian Ballet directed by Marilyn Jones OBE from 1979 to 1981. In 1982, Gordon guested with the Sydney City Ballet and later that year joined the Nederlands Dans Theater with the director/choreographer, Jiri Kylian at it's helm. He joined William Forsythe's Ballet Frankfurt as a soloist in 1984, later becoming a ballet master and choreographer with the company until 1986. In 1987, Gordon taught and choreographed at the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne under the directing of Dame Margaret Scott and created ballets for both the School and the Australian Ballet Company. They include: Sonata for Seven (showcased at Covent Garden in 1988), Jarabina, Mr. Clay, My name is Edward Kelly and Symphonic Poem. Gordon commenced a freelance career in 1992, choreographing Rainbow River, The Breath of Time, Melodious Accents and Passages on the Singapore Dance Theatre. His other works include: Les Galanteries on the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Tannhauser for the then Victorian State Opera and Aida for Opera Australia.
