My mother visited her first ever wig supplier due to a sudden case of Alopecia. Having enjoyed a thick head of hair her whole life this has come as a huge shock to her. The owner – Haya was incredibly insensitive, nasty and unprofessional who only seemed interested in selling. My mother has had short blonde curly hair for more than 50 years and Haya kept wanting to sell her totally different style wigs that included straight and very dark styles despite Mum saying that she wanted something similar to her natural style. She told Mum that this would make her look younger. Mum continued to tell her that she wasn’t there for a makeover but just wanted something that looked natural and more like the style and color that she has always had. Apart from trying to sell inappropriate wigs she also made hurtful comments. When Mum said that she wanted a wig to wear to her special birthday party in just 3 weeks Haya told her she would be lucky to have a hair on her head by then! Mum has been trying everything possible to get her hair growing again and believes that it is regrowing in parts but Haya told her that was “wishful thinking”. Mum left feeling extremely upset. We can’t believe that Haya could be so insensitive and hurtful when she operates a business that largely supplies people who are suffering from cancer or alopecia and are feeling particularly vulnerable and sensitive of their appearance.
