About Dr Colin Chan
Dr Colin Chan specialises in refractive surgery, cataract surgery and corneal surgery. He is an expert in laser eye surgery and new treatments for keratoconus including corneal collagen cross linking with riboflavin, Intacs and Kerarings. He is an internationally recognized expert in Cornea and Refractive Surgery.
Education:
Dr Chan graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Melbourne. He was a resident and registrar in a number of medical and surgical fields at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. Dr Chan underwent ophthalmic surgery training at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital. This was followed by a Fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, USA with Brian Boxer Wachler and at the University of California, Irvine.
Career Highlights:
One of the first surgeons in the world to perform Collagen Crosslinking for Keratoconus.
Established Australia’s first specialized Dry eye Clinic.
Currently holds two University Academic positions: Clinical Senior Lecturer, Central Clinical School, University of Sydney and Senior Visiting Fellow, School of Optometry, UNSW.
Published over 25 peer reviewed publications and textbook chapters.
Invited Chairman for the World Ophthalmology Congress in 2008.
Invited to run a Masterclass in Intracorneal rings for Keratoconus at the Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Conference in 2010.
Awards:
Awarded the Inaugural NOSA Young Investigator Award.
Awarded the Best Paper of Session at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) 2006 and 2007.
Invited speaker to numerous international ophthalmology meetings including the World Cornea Congress, American Academy of Ophthalmology and Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Congress in 2010.
