Bad experience with Purnell Motor Land Rover in Blakehurst – my life-time nightmare! Do not go! I purchased a brand new Landrover Discovery 3 in late Dec 2008 at Purnell Mortor with a 3 years warranty. A routine full service&check was conducted by Purnell in Sep 2011- two month before the warranty expires, and I was told the car is in a perfect condition. However, on 5 Feb 12, 46 days after the warranty expired, I heard strange noise from the engine and then sent the car to Prunell for a check. Purnell staff told me there is serious problem with the fuel system and the entire system needs to be replaced with new ones, which will cost me about $15,000. All the parts/services will not be covered by Purnell or Landrover as it is 46 days out of warranty, though the car is only 62,000km (normally the warranty will cover 100,000k or 3 years which ever came first). Purnell staff also said I can’t drive the car home because of the seriousness of the problem. He offered free car for me to use during the time the car to be repaired (6 days later I was charged with $396 as the free offer was not authorised by the Manager!) As a female driver without any car ‘knowledge’ and English as my second language, I felt helpless when heard this. Families and friends suggested me to have a second opinion. When I asked Purnell staff to provide me a problem identification report on the following day, I was told it needs the MANAGEMENT to determine if I can have the report because the report is only accessible in Landrover’s system (I believe it’s B**T). Soon the same staff phoned me and said Purnell can offer a ‘CHEAPER’ solution to fix my car which will only cost me $3,000. I rejected his suggestion and asked for the report again in email (all emails are still available). Two days later Purnell finally sent me the report. I then started a case with Fairtrading. The same time Purnell asked me to remove my car from their premises as I did not accepted their repair offer and charged me for the ‘free renting car’. As the Fairtrading investigation lasted nearly two months my life and work were deeply affected without a car. Fairtrading finally determine that Purnell should repair the car for free based on the revised legislation. I then received a free repair offer from Purnell, which Purnell called based on ‘GOOD WILL’. In this offer Purnell only offered to replace the fuel pump (not new), and FLUSH all the other parts. This is what happened to me and I hope no one repeats it! When I heard the Purnell Landrover radio ad each morning on my way to work, I am thinking: listeners, DO NOT GO TO PURNELL LANDROVER! p.s. I am responsible for what I wrote above. If you’d like to know more about the facts, please email me: hulian63@hotmail.com
