ACS Assessment pathways for Skilled Migration

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is the country's primary regulating body for information and communication technology. ACS evaluates potential migrant ICT professionals to ensure they fulfil the assessing authority standards for employment in Australia's chosen occupation. The ACS has been identified as a suitable Assessing Authority for ICT skills jobs on the List of Qualified Skilled Occupations. Applicants will be able to pick from a variety of evaluation paths based on their educational history. This section will discuss four ACS evaluation paths (application kinds) that you can follow based on the criteria.

Temporary Graduate (TG)

Applicants with a bachelor's degree or above are eligible for the temporary graduate (TG) application type. The degree will be obtained from a well-known Australian university. This track, however, is a qualification-only skill assessment and may only be selected by candidates applying for a subclass 485 visa.

Suitability Criteria

  • The nominated occupation in Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) category 485 is appropriate for a Temporary Graduate route.

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Australia with a major in ICT is required for the selected employment.

  • Satisfy the Australian Study Requirement (ASR) to get a visa from the Department of Home Affairs. ACS is not in charge of your ASR needs.

Post-Australian Study (PAS)

This application method is for candidates who have finished their Australian Bachelor's degree or higher-level study and wish to have their skills assessed for migration reasons. Post-Australian study necessitates completing an ACS Professional Year Program or other relevant employment in the ICT field.

Suitability Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree or higher education level in Australia with an ICT major in the selected area.

  • After completing a relevant Australian degree or a Professional year program, one year of work experience is required.

Skills Assessment (Skills)

This application pathway is utilized for tertiary ICT degrees and jobs in the general skill assessment category.

Suitability Criteria

Qualifications equivalent to an AQF Bachelor's degree or higher with an ICT major

  • To satisfy the criteria, you must have two years of relevant work experience performed in the preceding ten years or four years of related work experience completed at any time if your degree is an ICT major and is directly connected to your employment.

  • If your degree is in ICT but not directly connected to your employment, you must have four years of work experience completed at any time to fulfill the criteria.

Qualifications equivalent to an AQF Bachelor's degree or higher with an ICT minor

  • To satisfy the criteria, you must have five years of related work experience performed in the past ten years or six years of work experience completed at any time if your degree is an ICT minor and is directly connected to your employment.

  • Suppose your degree is an ICT minor that is not closely connected to your employment. In that case, you must have completed six years of related work experience at any time to fulfill the criterion.

Qualification equivalent to an AQF diploma or vendor certification

  • Suppose your AQF degree or vendor certification is in ICT and is directly connected to your occupation. In that case, you must have five years of related work experience done within the last ten years or six years of work experience performed at any time to fulfill the criterion.

  • Suppose your AQF degree or vendor certification is in ICT and not closely connected to your employment. In that case, you must have completed six years of related work experience at any point to fulfill the criterion.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The RPL application pathway is intended for applicants who do not have any ICT qualifications, applicants who have insufficient ICT content, or not from the ICT background.

Suitability Criteria

Qualifications other than ICT that are equal to an AQF Diploma or higher

  • To fulfill the eligibility criteria, you must have six years of work experience accomplished anytime in the previous year, as well as an RPL application if your degree is classified as inadequate ICT with an equivalent AQF Diploma or higher.

No tertiary qualification – work experience only
