The MacArthur Museum of Brisbane is committed to conveying the tales of the Allied battle in the South-West Pacific Area (SWPA), US General Douglas MacArthur's position as Supreme Commander of Allied troops in the SWPA, and the war's impact on Brisbane and its people. In 1941, Brisbane had a population of over 350,000 people. Queensland, on the other hand, became a base of support for something like the military effort in the South West Pacific for the following three years. During the Pacific War, up to one billion US army personnel traveled through the area.
